Independent SGS Studies Test the Effectiveness of Carton Sealing Methods
SGS Testing, the world's largest independent test lab, conducted studies that repeatedly prove using reinforced water-activated tape (WAT) and automated dispensing saves time, material and money. Whenever strength and security are important, WAT and BetterSeal Secure brand tape consistently outperform plastic pressure-sensitive tape (PST). And, automation with Better Pack brand dispensing systems significantly increases the efficiency of the packaging process. The proof is in the results...
Save Time and Material
One major disadvantage of using plastic tape is that several strips are typically needed to seal a carton, when one strip of water-activated tape will do the job. An added advantage of WAT is that it will do the job better by creating a stronger, tamper-evident seal.
SGS Report No. 134992-1 proves that 15% more PST was needed to close 100 cartons versus water-activated tape. And, 16% more time was needed to apply PST using the hand gun applicator versus the Better Pack 555 electronic system and WAT.
Increase Productivity
Automating the carton sealing process greatly improves workstation ergonomics and reduces the time needed to seal multiple cartons.
SGS Report No. 149698 indicates that using the Better Pack 555eSA with automatic measuring device was 28.5% more efficient that standard hand gun application of PST. The report also shows that the Better Packages system is 24.5% more efficient than using the Marsh Electra dispenser.
Create a Tamper-Evident Seal
Water-activated tape actually forms a bond with the corrugated carton and produces a sturdy, secure seal that's strong and tamper evident. Plastic pressure-sensitive tape simply sits on the surface of a box and can easily be pealed back and replaced.
SGS Report No. 150215 results show that 96% of the cartons sealed with PST could be easily opened and resealed, leaving little or no visible evidence that the boxes had been opened. 100% of the cartons sealed with BetterSeal Secure reinforced WAT showed clear signs of damage to the carton and tape, proving WAT to be the choice if tamper-evidence is important.
